I only stumbled upon this today, but I already am passionate about this app. Cobook for Mac OS X is a new kind of address book application that, finally, takes the address book to the next level. If we have all those contacts and friends on Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn and other social networks, why not use the data provided in our own, personal address book?
Our contacts on those networks keep their persoanl information almost always up to date. And until now, I don’t know of any app that really makes use of this and updates itself with these already provided information. Insteadt, we have to fill in every field in our address books and make changes manually. Cobook changes this. Connected to your Twitter, Facebook and Linkedin profiles (if you want it to be), it will try and find the contacts you already have in your previously used address book application on the named networks and download the information (again, only if you want it to do that). And if one contact then makes a change on one of their online profiles, Cobook automatically updates your address book entry for that person. Or you download all your contacts on those networks into Cobook and replace your previous address database. However you prefer it.
Besiedes the socially inetgrated part of Cobook, it is also a very cool and great to use app. It can basically detect what kind of information you are typing into its little text-entry field and put it into the right place. Say you are adding a new phone number to an existing contact, just start typing the numbers into the text-field and Cobook creates a new phone number field in that contact information.
But why do I keep trying to explain all this wonderfull stuff with words, when the guys behind Cobook made this neat little video, shwoing you exaclty what the app does?
Basically, amazing. I really like the fact that it synschs with Mac OS X’s Address Book application. That way, all your data gets backed up to iCloud and is always in synch across all your Macs, iPhones and iPads. No matter if your are using Cobook or another address book application.
Can’t wait to start using Cobook in my day to day life now. So, you go ahead and download the free beta now.
